Coaches, let’s talk about time.
Whether you coach weightlifting, lifestyle habits, or general fitness, there’s one universal skill every coach should teach: how to understand and manage time. It’s not just about structuring workouts, setting training session lengths, or tracking tempo. It’s about helping clients navigate when and how to execute their plan—whether that’s fitting in workouts, prepping meals, or balancing work, life, and fitness. One of the biggest challenges?
Helping clients recognize where their time is best spent. Many feel like their time is already spoken for—by work, family, or social obligations. Our job isn’t to tell them to ignore responsibilities—it’s to help them see their time as their own and use it with intention.
Birch had the right idea: wasting time is nearly impossible. But misspending it? That’s easy. (And unlike Birch, our clients do have iPhones and social media to contend with.)
So here’s the real coaching question: Are you teaching clients how to train, or are you teaching them how to own their time in pursuit of their goals? Because the latter might be the difference between short-term effort and lifelong success.
